FEW cricketers will ever have taken seven wickets in an innings for just 20 runs and ended up on the losing side. But that is what happened to Sleaford 2nd XI bowler Rob Noble.
Entertaining third placed Boston in a South Lincs and Border League Division One game on Saturday, Sleaford seconds were put into the field after the visitors won the toss.

Noble then proceeded to wreak havoc and in a stunning 10-over spell remove
d seven of the Boston batsmen, with four of his victims clean bowled.

A spirited stand late in the innings by tail-enders Thirkell (34) and Gilding (31) helped get Boston out of real difficulty, but their final all out total of 140 seemed very reachable.

However, Boston’s unlikely batting heroes showed what they could do with the ball and Sleaford were soon in difficulties.

With Thirkell claiming four wickets and Gilding returning figures of three for 10 off eight very economic overs, Sleaford could only muster 93 runs as Boston secured what was in the end a relatively easy 47 run victory for the visitors.

l Sleaford seconds were at home again on Sunday but went down to their second defeat of the weekend.

Fielding a strong side against Caythorpe, Sleaford were looking to post a big score when they went in to bat first after winning the toss.

However, their early batting collapsed and they found themselves on 39 for five before Warren Nel and Ben Burrows staged a good recovery. Nel went on to make 61 and Burrows 37 and their rallying efforts helped Sleaford reach 175 before the final wicket fell.

Endley and Gascoyne each picked up three wickets for Caythorpe.

In their reply Caythorpe made steady and sustained progress but lost wickets too, which kept Sleaford in with a chance.

An unbeaten 37 from Braithwaite, well supported at the other end by Watson (18no), eventually saw Caythorpe pass the winning post with three wickets in hand. Earlier contributions from Morris (38), Endley (27) and Adams (27) set Caythorpe on their way.

Sleaford’s batting hero Nel had figures of 3-22 and Ben Burrows claimed a couple of wickets.
