Martin shoots fine 71 to win club championships

THE Sudbrook Moor men's club championship was won by Martin Corby.
The championship began with a pre-qualifying round on the Saturday, in conjunction with the monthly medal, and the 24 competitors with the best gross scores went on to contest the 18-hole championship on the Sunday.

Top qualifiers were Pete Martin
, Chris Haynes and Darren Woods, with defending champion Robert Keddie in contention in fourth.

But it was mid-field competitor Martin Corby who shot a fine 71, which included an eagle two at the 17th, who took an early lead into the clubhouse. He then faced an 80 minute wait to see if his score would be beaten but none of the other players still out on the course was able to overhaul him.

Martin and Mick Leachman both carded 72s to share second place. Chris Winfield and Robert Keddie were fourth equal on 76.

l BACK to back wins for Sudbrook Moor seniors’ maintained the side’s good form in the South Lincs Seniors’ League.

Sudbrook beat RAF Coningsby away three and half to two and half, to pick up three bonus points for an away win, and the following week they won the return against RAF Coningsby 4-2, to pick up a further two points.

Sudbrook results in the away game: Ron Boxell and Ken Crowe lost 4 and 3; Pete Armstrong and Ken Jameson won 4 and 3; Graham Buxton and Tony Rose won 6 and 5; Alfie Kent and David Swaithe won 6 and 5; Maurice Green and Pete Farmer lost 2 and 1; Ted Johnson and Toney Sealey halved.

Results from the home game: Ron Boxell and Ken Crowe lost 2 and 1; Pete Armstrong and Ken Jameson won 4 and 3; Graham Buxton and Tony Rose won 4 and 2; Alfie Kent and David Swaithe won 5 and 3, Maurice Green and Peter Farmer won one up; Ted Johnson and Tony Sealey lost two. down.

l Sudbrook Moor’s A team were beaten 5-1 by Belton Woods. Sudbrook have four league points after six fixtures and are pleased with their inaugural season in the scratch league.

l Senior Colin Fitt recorded a hole in one at the third hole at Sudbrook, his first ever ace.

l The junior fledglings’ nine-hole medal event was won by Jake Pointon.
