PLANS to build a straw burning power station on the outskirts of Sleaford are being opposed by Sleaford Town Council.
Town councillors voted to object to the proposals by Eco2 Ltd for the renewable energy power plant on land off Boston Road, between Sleaford and Kirkby La Thorpe, on grounds of its size and the inadequacy of the existing roads to and from the site.

The council will pass its comments to North Kesteven District Council's planning committee, which will then decide on whether to approve the scheme.

Chairman of the town council's applications committee, Coun Ada Trethewey, had said she was initially swung in favour of the plant as she believed some of the points raised by objectors had been exaggerated and distorted. But she admitted she had serious concerns about the transport links via the A17.

Coun Sally Benthall said there would also be increased lorry traffic on the A15 from the north and south, something she felt had been underestimated. She did not think it was appropriate to site the plant next to the Sleaford Town football ground.
