EDITOR - On Monday, September 8, along with my wife, I attended a public meeting held at Kirkby La Thorpe Primary School to voice our opinion concerning the latest planning application by Eco2 for a straw burning power station on Boston Road.
The strength of sentiment expressed by all those who had an opportunity to speak was a clear indication of the justifiable concern that has been displayed throughout the entire period that this extremely controversial matter has been under considerat
ion.
As a town councillor, who whilst not a resident of the town (but living in Kirkby La Thorpe) and representing Navigation Ward, it is worth placing on record that the vote by the town council to oppose this planning application when it was first debated was unanimous.
Comments by various individuals in the local press that the town council should have made an appearance at that initial planning meeting by North Kesteven District Council were fully justified. A written submission was presented but that fell well short of the added impact that an appearance would have had.
As a consequence I, and hopefully other town councillors, will be lobbying to correct that serious oversight when the so-called revised planning application is considered by the district council.
Whilst last Monday's public meeting was very well supported, it is vital that all the residents of Sleaford express their strong objection to this unwarranted and totally ill-conceived scheme by Eco2.
As one of the many objectors who have consistently questioned the beneficial claims made by Eco2, the real power to kick this latest application into touch lies with the district councillors.
I would hope that those councillors who resolutely refused to be persuaded by all the hype remain steadfast and vote against again and I would ask that those who voted in favour consider the long term impact of their original decision and next time vote to reject the application.
