EDITOR – There are currently two applications in for straw burning plants, at Sleaford and Brigg.
The latter has objections due to it being in an accident black spot but is proposed to be sited by the current power station.
I have checked the local amended plan and the site in Sleaford is designated as countrysided.
Of all stations proposed or
built in this country this is the nearest to a town that I have seen.
It is in the wrong location and should be on the industrial estate – designed for employment.
As far as I can see there appears to be no direct benefit to Sleaford in terms of power from it to be supplied to the town.
The emissions of SO2 and NO2 are worrying and assume a wind direction of South-west prevailing and not much evidence of the possible easterly winds we experience and the dispersal of gases back to the town.
Both the HCl and SO2 are acidic and with water will create acid rain. SO2 gases affect those with respiratory illness, pulmonary and asthma.
The assumption for the dispersal of gases does not take into account climate change and temperature change in 20-25 years hence.
They are adding lime to the flue to combat the gases – what overall is the effect?
They are choosing the cheapest way of reducing emissions by filters rather than other more expensive procedures.
Other biomass stations can burn chicken litter. There is nothing to say they will not do so on this site.
The effect on an already dropping house price in the country will be exaggerated if this comes to pass.
There will be house sale
boards going up all over
Kirkby La Thorpe and Boston Road, Sleaford. Will Eco2 compensate us for any drop in house price?
I feel we are being sold down the river just so that a box can be ticked saying we have renewable energy.
