EDITOR – I take the strongest exception to have been presented with a unilateral demand by North Kesteven District council on behalf of the Sleaford Business Development group for £50 – but will pay it under duress.
I consider the constitution of this oligarchy to be undemocratic because I have never been afforded the opportunity to vote or comment upon its formation and in fact have never received any information whatsoever from it except for an invoice from NK
DC (representing itself as a debt collecting agency) – no reminder or final warning – and a summons.
I am not a willing subscriber and am curious to discover how it is able to sue me if I choose not to pay its demands.
Will new businesses thinking of setting up in Sleaford be forewarned of an extra unilateral one per cent demand on their business rates?
My definition of a quango is a constitution set up by a person or persons (usually anonymous) to take monies from the ratepayer or taxpayer for administering matters that often duplicate or overlap with other bodies that are performing the same functions, and ultimately are not accountable to anyone for their actions or decisions.
If the object of this quango was to try and promote business in Sleaford, then it is entirely counterproductive.
As a direct result of this unilateral demand, I will be moving any business interests I have out of Sleaford.
