LINCOLNSHIRE Fire and Rescue station manager Steve Moore has taken delivery of a specially-built BMW Fire and Rescue response motorbike for his latest role – liaising with bikers.
The R1200 RT-P bike is on a two-week trial from BMW during which its performance will be assessed and it will help deliver road safety messages to motorcyclists in the county at various shows and bike nights.

Steve said: “The bike will allow me t
o actively engage with the biker community and highlight some of the dangers that are associated with motorcycles.”

He will use the bike during a secondment with the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership as Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue becomes only the fourth fire and rescue service to be offered the bike. The trial was arranged by the service’s partner AssetCo and will help Steve to deliver the Performance Plus project – two days at Cadwell Park racing circuit where bikers will have the chance to practise road safety in theory sessions and on the track.

The scheme is funded by a £52,000 grant from the Department for Transport and during the sessions riders will also have the chance to practise defensive riding skills and pick up tips on vehicle maintenance.

l The sessions take place on Tuesday, September 30 and Tuesday, October 7, from 8.30am to 5.30pm and are priced £59, with a limit of 64 places available at each session.
